This page sets out my personal experiences with Albright Kendrick Law Ltd (formerly Shahban Law Ltd). It excludes matters relating to other clients of theirs, which will be covered separately.

The issues described below are based on written agreements, emails, and letters between myself, Alex Palmer and the firm’s staff, including Mr Stuart Basson (Practice Manager) and Mr Bryhan Otubu (Director/COFA).

Referral Commissions Owed

On 26 September 2023, Mr Basson confirmed in writing that for every client I referred to Shahban/Albright Kendrick, I would receive 10% of the fee billed (excluding VAT and disbursements).

Despite this clear agreement, the firm:
- Failed to pay me for multiple referrals.
- Ignored repeated requests for figures so I could raise invoices.
- Attempted to deny the agreement by falsely claiming it depended on “profit,” which was never mentioned in the contract.

I contacted all my referrals directly and confirmed they had been billed fees, yet the firm still refused to honour its obligation.

Pro Bono Property Matter Reneged

In March 2024, Mr Basson offered to act pro bono on a property I owned (excluding disbursements and counsel fees). This was in exchange for pro bono work I did for him. The agreement was confirmed in writing.

I relied on this promise and did not seek alternative representation. However:
- Basson later refused, citing “capacity” and blaming another client's case.
- He admitted he had taken on other work during the same period.
- This delay caused me serious financial prejudice as my mortgage was due to expire within a year and did.

This is a clear example of promissory estoppel: I relied on his representation to my detriment.

Ignored Correspondence

From 8 May 2024 onwards, I sent multiple emails and letters. The timeline is clear:
- 8 May 2024: Initial request (ignored).
- 20 May 2024: Follow-up (ignored).
- 29 May 2024: Another reminder (ignored).
- 10 June 2024: Finally received a response.

Even when responses did come, they were dismissive and failed to resolve the issue. In several letters, I gave 48-hour or 7-day deadlines, but the firm repeatedly ignored them.

Unprofessional and Dismissive Responses

Examples include:
- Basson accusing me of being “vindictive, unprofessional, and unjust” and then asking me to “leave him alone in peace.”
- Otubu claiming my letters were “either untrue or misleading” without giving any evidence.
- Management repeatedly promising a “substantive reply” that never arrived.

Such conduct is incompatible with professional standards expected of solicitors.

Failure to Provide Invoices and Breakdowns

None of my referrals received invoices or proper breakdowns of fees. This breaches both the firm’s Client Care Letter and the SRA’s Code of Conduct.

When asked, the firm falsely claimed invoices had been posted. All of my referrals confirmed they had received nothing.

Subject Access Request (SAR) Ignored

On 27 June 2024 and 28 June 2024, I made a formal Subject Access Request (SAR) under the UK GDPR.

The law requires firms to respond within one month. Albright Kendrick failed to do so.

List of CCJs Against Albright Kendrick

The County Court Judgments (CCJs) registered against Albright Kendrick Law Ltd highlight a wider pattern of financial mismanagement.

Case No.

Date of Judgment

Amount

Court

685MC644

18 August 2025

£11,413

County Court Online

561MC286

10 September 2024

£527

County Court Online

565MC329

21 September 2024

£1,209

County Court Online

L5QZ2F4W

08 October 2024

£5,855

Civil National Business Centre

L4QZ2V1J

21 January 2025

£1,976

Civil National Business Centre

M4BP1H5N

20 August 2025

£257

Civil National Business Centre

Conclusion

My dealings with Albright Kendrick Law Ltd demonstrate a pattern of:
- Ignoring correspondence.
- Breaking written agreements.
- Refusing to provide invoices and breakdowns.
- Failing to comply with data protection law.
- Dismissing legitimate complaints with hostility.

However, these issues pale into insignificance compared to the horrors that my clients experienced, which will be documented separately.

Introduction

If you’re reading this because you’re considering using Albright Kendrick Law Ltd - or because you’re already tangled in a nightmare with them - this blog post is for you. I want to share my own story of dealing with this firm, in particular my experience around a matter involving one of my clients, and how it turned into one of the most stressful, frustrating periods of my life.

Check Back for Updates
I’m still working on putting together all the details about the terrible experiences I’ve had with Stuart Basson and Albright Kendrick Law Ltd. It’s a big job and will take me several months to finish. Please keep coming back to this website for updates as I continue sharing my full story and new information as it comes to light.

The Background: Who Is Albright Kendrick Law Ltd?

Albright Kendrick Law Ltd (formerly Shahban Law Ltd) is a law firm that, on the surface, appears professional and capable. But beneath the glossy website, my experience has been shockingly different. And I know I’m not alone - several others I’ve spoken to have had equally disastrous dealings with them. Mr. Stuart Basson runs the outfit (although he denies this).

My Nightmare Begins:

My ordeal started when I approached Stuart Basson of Shahban Law Ltd (now Albright Kendrick Law Ltd) regarding a client of mine.

Initially, they were all promises and polite communication. They assured us the case was straightforward and that they’d resolve everything quickly.

But as time went on:

Communication became hostile, then inconsistent or stopped altogether.

Deadlines were missed repeatedly.

Important documents were mishandled.

We received bad advice from the firm.

We both felt like they were gaslighting us whenever we raised concerns.

Every time we tried to get clear answers, we would be gaslit or simply ignored. Meanwhile, the stress and costs kept piling up.

The Personal Toll

It’s hard to describe how exhausting and demoralising it is to deal with a firm that’s supposed to help you, but instead seems to make things worse. We both lost sleep worrying about several cases they were 'dealing' with. My client's personal and professional life suffered because a lot of her time and mental energy was consumed by trying to chase this firm for updates or to fix their mistakes.

We both began to dread checking emails or phones, fearing the latest excuse or demand for more fees without progress.

We are Not the Only Ones

Through my own research and connecting with other clients, I’ve learned that our experience isn’t unique. Others have reported:

Rude or dismissive responses when they tried to complain.

Cases dragging on for months or years with no resolution.

Financial losses due to the firm’s mistakes or negligence.

Many of us have felt trapped because legal complaints take time - and meanwhile, Albright Kendrick Law Ltd continues to operate.

What I’ve Done About It

I’ve dedicated a section of this website specifically to warn others about Albright Kendrick Law Ltd and individuals involved, including Stuart Basson.

I’ve also taken steps like:

Filing complaints with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Reporting issues to the Legal Ombudsman.

Connecting with other victims to share information and support.

If you’re dealing with this firm - or any solicitor who’s letting you down - know that you do have options. You can complain to the SRA, the Legal Ombudsman, and other regulators. Don’t suffer in silence. It is fair to say that reporting a lawyer is a very slow process, taking many months, if not years. The end result is nearly always disappointing. Don't take my word for it, just search online for other's experiences with the SRA and the Ombudsman. This is why I have set up this website and joined forces with a prestigious and reputable law firm to take action against rogue lawyers. In a nutshell, the system for reporting is not fit for purpose - one must take their own action.

Final Thoughts

I’m sharing my story because I believe people deserve to know the truth behind the professional façade of firms like Albright Kendrick Law Ltd. My experience with this firm has been a genuine nightmare, but hopefully, by speaking up, I can help others avoid the same pain.

If you’ve had similar issues, feel free to reach out to me via my website. Together, we’re stronger—and we can hold bad firms accountable.
